GPS/Tom Tom Question - Is there a place to download maps for the Tom Tom One 3rd Edition for free?

It should have the latest maps on it. Are you looking for POI (points of interest) files? ie. Starbucks, Harley, Target etc.? If so you can do a google search for free POI and there's a ton of them for free, Also you need to search for POI editor because most of these files are .cvs for Garmin and with the free POI editor you can open and then save them in the TomTom format, then copy them to the TomTom and your set. But as for maps so far as I know you can only get them from TomTom.When you purchase your gps, the unit will come with up to date maps. In a year or two you may want to update these maps to reflect road changes. Map updates will typically cost about $ 50 dollars for the portable units like the TomTom.

Some gps providers support traffic notification services using a "Radio Data System - Traffic Message Channel" antenna that plugs into your gps unit. This additional antenna (not required for anything but traffic notification) will cost about $ 100. The service will probably cost an additional $ 5 per month.

Bottom line, you will be able to navigate from point A to point B with the unit in the box without any additional fee. If you are interested in a free way to use your gps to detect traffic cameras, look for free poi file directions on this page: http://www.a2dvoices.com/realitycheck/gps/TomTomGPS.html
